By Guru’s Grace, I am humbled and grateful to share that it has been another great year at SikhNet. It has been a delight to travel and get to know our global sangat, to read your emails and responses to our new courses, our new audio and animated stories and to our newsletters, where we share our work with you! In the coming year, we have huge changes coming to the Gurbani Media Center – updating systems from the ground up, as well as more new courses in the Learning Center, more travels, more new Stories, and more improvements to our apps. It is our honor to share with you everything SikhNet has done in the past year in our Annual Report. Please know, we couldn’t do any of it without you. Thank you for your ongoing support! Our hard-working tech team spent 8 months developing and rebuilding our Android GMC app, which is now 100% in sync with our iOS GMC app. This allowed for a huge growth in Android GMC app users and many happy people. New “My Library” features Now, you can save all of your favorite Artists, Albums, Tracks, Playlists and Radio Stations to your very own library for easy reference and collection. Podcast & Audiobook We added a new Category “Podcast” to GMC app that has playlists of Podcast discussions specifically related to Guru Granth Sahib ji and various Sikh Talks from America that inspires and provides information to the cyber sangat. A new category “Audio Books” has also been added with books by Bhai Vir Singh ji that you can listen while traveling or just while relaxing. Gurbani Albums & Featured Playlists Added 74 new albums consisting of digitized old Gurbani, western style, mainstream, healing meditation, devotional, Kavishri and English Katha’s for sangat. 100 featured playlists of different styles/moods were created for listeners to enjoy kirtan of different styles/moods. The playlists are created with Gurbani kirtan dedicated to specific Gurpurab and historic events. New SikhNet Radio Channels Historic Sikh Gurdwaras in Delhi added to SikhNet Radio All Gurdwaras are invited to contact SikhNet to have their broadcasts included in the SikhNet Radio Channels . Downloads & Users Did you know that you can upload audio to the GMC? The GMC allows hundreds of thousands of people to stream Guru Ji’s kirtan anywhere in the world. Get started SIKHNET LEARNING CENTER In Honor of Guru Nanak Dev’s 550th Birthday SikhNet’s Learning Center content this year focuses on how to live as Guru Nanak taught. In a new series of three courses: Guru Nanak Within Me , we explore: Our relationship to Guru Nanak Dev Ji The universe is a university. What courses are we taking right now? The process of awakening into life as described in Gurbani Establishing a daily spiritual practice that works Developing our subtle sensitivity and intuition How to clear your mind of worry What is Amrit Vela and its importance The role of the nitnem banis in our spiritual practice All the courses in the SikhNet Learning Center are mixed-media courses involving, reading, audio, video, quizzes and self-assessments. Students interact with each other directly as well as with the instructors through the 24/7 commenting system. I am so incredibly grateful for this resource. You all have created an easy, effective way of learning this invaluable wisdom. A. Moritz This course has enriched my life. It has given me the strenght that i need. Now am no longer wandering in the dark but i have the light of the Guru to guide me. I feel small when I read the comments of the other students. They are so much further than me. I have great difficulties in learning the language so i use the english translations. But it makes no difference. I feel the power of the Guru flow through me when i chant “Waheguru” and when i meditate with the slow breathing method. I will learn all these difficult words eventually. But it is not necessary. Even people like me who do not learn a foreign language quickly can connect to the Guru and feel the light in their lives every minute. Hunar Bhatia 9 years old, UK winner of up to 15 years category Story: Trees Grow Jayant Chopra 23 years old, India winner of 16-24 years category Story: Singh the Lion Download the SikhNet Audio Stories app SIKHNET ON THE GROUND COMMUNITY OUTREACH TRIPS Melbourne Gurumustuk started his visit to Australia in Melbourne, to participate in The Hari Singh Nalwa Retreat – for aspiring Leaders in the Panth organized by a Sikh organization called Akaal Fauj. This was a unique new camp format that was designed to help Sikhs who want to make a difference in their communities through service projects, offering some help to get them going, as well as the chance to learn from others who have successfully started and run service projects. The core theme of this camp was to equip young minds to be more effective in their communities and take them from being just dreamers to leaders who have the tools and information to create change. Harshdeep Singh (the brainchild of this camp) led the camp with along three facilitators to help guide the process: Mejindarpal Kaur (UK), Harjit Singh (Perth, Australia) and Gurumustuk Singh (USA. Sydney Gurumustuk’s second stop was Sydney for the Sikh Youth Australia Summer Family Camp. This camp started in 1998 and their first summer youth camp was held in 1999, and has shared their passion for seva and helping to inspire those around them ever since. SYA summer camp is a camp for people of all ages; truly a “Family” camp. Because of whole families going to the camp together, everyone grew spiritually together. The camp balanced “fun” activities along with lots of time to go deeper and develop one’s spiritual side. The atmosphere was very positive and open, with Sikhs from all over Australia and all types (short hair and long) with everyone being welcome. Everyone was interested in connecting to the Guru and working on themselves. United Kingdom In March and April, Gurujot Singh, Gurumustuk Singh and Guruka Singh joined forces to visit the United Kingdom. From the halls of Parliament to Birmingham and Leeds, and from Gurdwara halls to the cozy living rooms of Sangat members, we were blessed with sweet Sangat everywhere we went.
